Our Facilities: Where Learning Happens
The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences facilities are primarily located on the west side of the main campus. The college's main offices are centrally located in the Humanities & Social Sciences Building, along with several departmental offices in those disciplines. The beautiful Arts Building and Interdisciplinary Building are a short walk to the north, with the University Theatre just to the south.

Three Spaces / One Place
The UCR ARTSblock is composed of the UCR/California Museum of Photography, the Sweeney Art Gallery and, coming in 2009, the Culver Center for the Arts. The three venues reside side-by-side on the pedestrian mall in the heart of downtown Riverside.

The Jack and Marilyn Sweeney Art Gallery develops and presents exhibitions of contemporary and historic works of art each year. It also provides interpretation, preservation, and collection of works of art; produces publications, symposia, lectures, and other events; serves as a laboratory for training future museum and other art professionals; and hosts the annual senior thesis exhibition for students in the Department of Art.
The UCR/California Museum of Photography (UCR/CMP) is a major photography exhibition and research center. It holds the largest photographic archives of its kind west of the Mississippi, including:
- 6,500 Ansel Adams negatives
- the Keystone-Mast stereoscopic collection
- the Bingham camera collection
The Barbara & Art Culver Center of the Arts is part of UC Riverside's continuing dedication to the advancement of culture and arts in the local and campus community. The project intends to renovate the Rouse Building, located in the Mission Inn Historic District in Downtown Riverside, include facilitate exhibition and retail space, a film and video screening room, graduate and faculty offices, living accommodations and work space for visiting artists, and a 500-seat Downtown Performance Hall.

The CHASS Interdisciplinary Building is located between the Arts and PE buildings. It is home to six departments and nine interdisciplinary programs. The following departments and interdisciplinary programs can be found here.

The College Building South houses the Robert Presley Center for Crime and Justice Studies and Institute for Research on World Systems.
The Highlander Research Complex is home to the:
- Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research
- Center for Ideas and Society
- Inland Area Writing Project
Five academic departments of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences reside in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. Facilities include the HMNSS 1500 Conference Room, the University Writing Program, and the Language Instruction Lab. The Dean's Office and the Student Academic Affairs office are both located in this building and it it is home to the Departments of:
Olmsted Hall is home to a number of psychology research laboratories and two instructional computer laboratories.
Completed in 2008, the Psychology Building is the home of the UCR Psychology Department, which includes labs, offices, classrooms and a vivarium.
Sproul Hall, located adjacent to the Humanities and Social Sciences building houses the Economics department. Also residing here is the UCR Statistical Consulting Collaboratory which supports research and faculty in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; and Computing and Communications.
The University Theatre is a 484-seat proscenium arch production facility featuring professional-level technical capabilities managed by the Theatre Facility Unit. Each year, it is home to numerous theatre, dance, and music performances, along with other events for the campus and community.
Watkins Hall is home to the Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology departments. Located there are the Archaeology/Biological Anthropology Lab and a computer lab which is one of several on campus which features Mac and PC computers, printers and software for student use.
