Two disciplinary perspectives- one topic!

Join Eric Schwitzgebel (Philosophy) and Jon Willits (Psychology) in a conversation that explores the mysterious terrain of human consciousness.

Eric’s view: Although our stream of conscious experience is one of the most important, if not the most important, things about us, few of us know very well what our stream of experience is actually like, and all of the general theories of consciousness so far advanced by psychologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers remain highly dubious.

Jon’s view: Consciousness is indeed complicated, but we can learn much about it through empirical investigation. In particular, we can learn much by studying the difference between our conscious and subconscious mental processes, and the ways in which our brain and sensory system alter and manipulate our experience of the world.
