Jun Hyoin MFA Dance Project

TOURIST
Choreographed and directed by Hyoin Jun, MFA candidate in Experimental Choreography
Joel Smith, faculty advisor

Tourist is a dance piece made through a deep inquiry into human touring movements, and influenced by the choreographer’s personal experiences in being a tourist or foreigner. The piece contains expressions of human desire to explore new places, and the emotions that develop while attempting to adapt or move on.

Hyoin Jun is an MFA candidate in the Experimental Choreography program at UC Riverside where he was awarded the Dean's Distinguished Fellowship Award. Before coming to UCR, Jun received an MA in Physical Education and a BA in Dance from the Chung-Ang University, Korea. His awards at international dance competitions include: the Jury Award, Sibiu International Dance Competition, Romania (2011); the Bronze Medal, Novosibirsk International Dance Competition, Russia (2010); and the Gold Medal, Berlin International Dance Competition TANZOLYMP, Germany (2010). He performed at the 2014 Winter Olympic Closing Ceremony in Sochi, Russia, on behalf of Korea National Contemporary Dance Company and choreographed and performed B.C. (Before Christ) in Korea.

Tourist is presented by the University of California, Riverside, Department of Dance. Hyoin Jun created this work in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Experimental Choreography.
