UCRUCR is one of the fastest-growing universities in the University of California (UC) system and in the United States. The campus's total enrollment of 17,187 is expected to increase to 22,000 by 2015. UCR prides itself on its highly diverse student body; U.S. News & World Report 2007 ranked UCR as the nation’s third most ethnically diverse research university in the country. Furthermore, UCR was ranked 15th in Washington Monthly’s September issue of "College Guide" for promoting scientific and humanistic research, encouraging community service, and serving as an engine of social mobility.

Founded as a research institution in 1907, UCR is the oldest of the UC southern campuses and is wholly committed to utilizing its knowledge and resources to benefit its student body and the community. With more than 1,000 faculty members, adjunct faculty and lecturers leading comprehensive programs and 5,500 staff members providing student and support services, UCR maintains a high quality learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students.

UCRThe College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences; the Bourns College of Engineering; the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management; and the Graduate School of Education comprise the academic units at UCR. Additionally, The Division of Biomedical Sciences has long partnered with UCLA to educate students pursuing medical degrees, and the University Extension Center offers continuing education to the community as well as English Instruction to thousands of international students each year. UCR offers Bachelor degrees for seventy nine majors, Master’s degrees for forty programs and Ph.D.’s for thirty seven programs.

The College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences is the fastest-growing College on campus because of its unique gathering of the arts, humanities, and social sciences into a single college. CHASS is the home of eight Humanities departments (Comparative Literature and Foreign Languages, English, Hispanic Studies, History, History of Art, Media and Cultural Studies, Philosophy and Religious Studies), five Arts departments (Art, Creative Writing, Dance, Music and Theatre), and seven Social Science departments (Anthropology, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Women's Studies). The collection of these units allows for original interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary curricula.

Among the College's outstanding facilities are the new CHASS Interdisciplinary and Psychology buildings. The CHASS Interdisciplinary Building, opening in December 2007, houses six departments (Religious Studies, Women's Studies, Media & Cultural Studies, Ethnic Studies, Creative Writing, and Theatre), and interdisciplinary programs (Liberal Studies, Southeast Asia: Texts, Rituals, Performance Studies, Public Policy, Global Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, and Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Interdisciplinary). The new Psychology building, which is expected to be completed in Fall 2008, will house academic and departmental offices, research laboratories, open class laboratories and a campus animal research facility.

UCRCHASS is devoted to bringing ambitious art exhibits and events to Riverside and Southern California. The UCR’s ARTSblock, located in downtown Riverside, combines the established UCR/California Museum of Photography, the Sweeney Art Gallery and the soon-to-be-completed Culver Center for the Arts. Its mission is to showcase the art and ideas of regional and international artists and film-makers, to provide a revolutionary media center for university research, and to screen films from the international film festival circuit. UCR has recently signed a 12 million dollar contract with Tovey/Schultz Construction Inc. to renovate the historic downtown Rouse Building into the Culver Center of the Arts. The refurbished Rouse Building will include exhibition and retail space, graduate and faculty offices, and living accommodations and work space for visiting artists. Construction started in 2007 and will be completed in Spring 2009.

Today, the 1,200-acre Riverside campus enjoys a strong partnership with the City of Riverside that brings dining, entertainment, retail, transportation and professional services to UCR students. The University Village (UV), which is located two blocks from campus, is home to many restaurants and businesses where students receive special discounts. At the heart of the UV is the University Theater which doubles as a classroom on weekday mornings. Within an hour drive from campus lie Southern California's premier theme parks, ocean and mountain resorts, deserts and lakes, as well as all the cultural riches of the greater Los Angeles area.
