The
Department of Theatre is pleased to present UCR’s
first production of Richard O’Brien’s
The Rocky Horror Show on May 9-18 in the University
Theatre. The production is directed by UCR Professor
Eric Barr, with musical direction by Patrick
Doran-Sheeran, and choreography by Michael Hayes.
The production of this cult classic is filled with youthful exuberance and energy, with nineteen performers who are accomplished singers, dancers, and actors. Eric Barr, professor, professional actor, director, and playwright said, “Although the story may seem frivolous, the production provides great training for young actors who are interested in professional careers. The show also provides technical challenges for design and technology students.” The student performers rehearse six days a week for five weeks in preparation for the production. The one and a half hour play begin on a dark and stormy night as Brad Majors proposes to his girlfriend Janet Weiss. When their car breaks down, they knock on the door of a brooding mansion only to be met by a cast of characters out of a 1950’s horror movie. The musical traced Brad and Janet’s bizarre adventures with these characters, as their lives soon change forever. The Rocky Horror show is a story of love, lust, manipulation, seduction, submission, domination, creation, satisfaction, and biological advancement. |
