Wind Ensemble Carries Audience Away
By Ferda Mehmet, student intern of CHASS College Computing

On May 22nd at 8pm, The Department of Music was proud to present its quarterly performance of the UCR Wind Ensemble in the University Theatre. This harmonious event, performed by students enrolled in Concert Band/Wind Ensemble Music 165, was a culmination of all work done in class. The evening performance featured an original composition for winds conducted by music graduate student Robert Presler entitled Solemn Prelude for Wind Ensemble. The performance also featured Morton Gould’s American Salute and Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades. Although most of the students in the ensemble were not majoring in Music, their hours of dedicated work led to an evening of enriching music.

UCR Director of Bands and Conductor, Bill Helms, who has over 20 years of live performances to his credit at UCR said, “The ensemble has a great deal to offer, and our students have utilized the Music Department’s support to further their musical talents and skills.” Working together in rehearsal, the student ensemble prepared the music for performance. Parents, friends, faculty, and the general Riverside Community were delighted by the inspiring efforts of the students in the UCR Wind Ensemble.
