Dean’s Greeting at UCR Parents Association Meeting
By Ferda Mehmet and Stephanie Wejbe, student intern of CHASS College Computing

Dean Patricia O’Brien served as CHASS’s speaker at the Spring UCR Parents Association Meeting on Saturday, April 26th at 10 AM in the Pentland Hills Residence Halls conference room.

CHASS houses the majority of UCR’s undergraduate student population and its activities provide important ways for parents to stay informed about their students’ undergraduate experiences. Last year, 64 % of CHASS students accounted for UCR’s total student enrollment and 75% of the undergraduate student status consisted of conferred degrees from CHASS. O’Brien discussed what CHASS offers in connection with UCR’s mission of undergraduate education. CHASS offers over 55 majors and 40 minors demonstrating UCR’s commitment to providing students the highest quality and broad interdisciplinary educational experience.

At the meeting, O’Brien also introduced the two new upcoming building developments, the CHASS Interdisciplinary Facility and the Psychology Building amounting 120,000 assignable square feet, which will broaden the academic opportunities for students. Throughout her discussion, O’Brien addressed and emphasized the college’s teamwork with the Chancellor and deans to overcome the budget crisis and in turn provide the best educational experience for UCR Students.
