UCR is Dancing in 2004
By Stephanie Wejbe, Student Intern of CHASS College Computing

The annual UCR is Dancing featured four performances on March 4, 5, 6 at 8:00 pm that included a Saturday Matinee Special in the University Theatre. The 2004 production was presented by the Department of Dance and directed by Professor of Dance , Fred Strickler. The program contained a variety of musical scores assembled from popular, classical and world music sources with new ideas and experiments in original choreography and music by UCR students.

This year's original performance pieces were "Adjust Repair Modify," "Nosotras.," "Mind Games," "Moving Through Blank," "Ginto," "Fluid Static," "Outside Interference," "Mother Corporate Sensual Innocence," "Bittersweet," "Through Cemented Color," and "Yvonne's Dessert."

Student dancers performed the dance pieces using the student choreography by Mindy Weethee, Patricia Maldonado, Sarah Zibowsky, Erica Yamada, Michelle Sabiniano, Erik Guzman, Jennifer Lynn Jones, Susana Elisa Marco Mendez, Reina Yoshihara, Megan Maxwell, and Tracy Thompson.

The dance pieces were, "derived from everyday gesture and life's non-sequiturs, a women's sextet fusing Latin and modern dance, a comical duet of competition, an ensemble dance inspired by Philippine dance culture, a piece that looks at the Hip Hop club scene, and more."
