The
College is honoring UCR Alumna and philanthropist
Judy Field Baker who recently retired after three
years of service on the Sweeney Art Gallery Board.
Baker was a member of the first graduating class
of UCR in 1958, receiving her Bachelor’s of
Arts degree in Art, and has since continuously given
back to the University through her time and donations.
Baker has been involved in many campus groups, organizations, and advisory boards, especially within the Arts. Over the course of past 15 years, she has served on the California Museum of Photography Support Committee, the Alumni Association Board, as Chair and member of both the Citizens University Committee and the Sweeney Art Gallery Advisory Board, as a member of the Advisory Committee for the School of Education, and on the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees. In addition to being a passionate volunteer and UCR philanthropist, Baker is also an accomplished and frequently commissioned artist in the area, completing several drawings, prints, and illustrated books. She also has completed several pen and ink drawings of sites around the city as well as other historic buildings and homes from around southern California, which she began in the 1960s. Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Edward-Dean Museum of Decorative Arts in Cherry Valley and at the Riverside Art Museum. Baker has made UCR’s Sweeney Art Gallery the repository of all of her artwork, transferring many of her original pieces to the Gallery. It is estimated that her gift of original artwork is valued at $100,000.
