Mingji (Matthew) Chu, a programmer analyst in the CHASS Dean’s Office since 2005, was awarded the UCR Staff Assembly Staff Who Make a Difference for his commitment to the UCR community and his drive to provide CHASS with up-to-date technology for both instruction and administration.

As a programmer analyst, Chu is responsible for system analysis and design, data modeling, database administration, and the development and programming for the College’s complex E-Business systems, which have reduced the workload of staff and given easier access to students.

Along with his contributions to CHASS, Chu has provided hospitality and transportation for UCR’s newly admitted international students and hosted an UCR’s Ph.D. student from China before she settled into her apartment. Furthermore, Chu has toured alongside UCR’s Chinese speaking students to show them America’s national parks and historical sites.

Chu received an M.S. in System Science from Louisiana State University (1998), an M.S. in Geology from Louisiana State University (1995), and an M.S. in Geology from the China University of Geosciences in Beijing (1985).

With more than twelve years of experience with programming and GIS technology and a desire to strengthen programs geared towards UCR’s international students, Matthew Chu is a valuable member of both the CHASS and UCR community.
