The College Spotlights the English Major Association

By Stephanie Wejbe, Student Intern of CHASS College Computing

Academic-oriented organizations such as the English Majors Association allows students to further academic interests associated with the academic program they are pursuing. The mission of the English Majors Association, a student-driven club, is to develop highly valued skills in oral and written communication, and the ability to think creatively as well as analytically.

President, Jequetta Bellard, discussed what the club offers undergraduate students with their involvement, “It helps to facilitate a more personal relationship between students and faculty through writing workshops and post movie discussion.” In addition, the English Majors Association assists students in finding scholarship information.

For a number of years, the organization was known as the English Student Union, but has been active as the English Majors Association for the past two years. Jequetta Bellard holds the President position for the 2003-2004 academic year. All officer position terms are for one academic year, but incumbents may be elected for additional terms.

Though there are not specific meeting times for the organization, interested students can contact the organization via e-mail ema_at_ucr@yahoo.com. Events are decided at the end of the prior quarter; therefore, members meet as needed when an event has been planned.
