Religious Studies Professor Receives University Scholar Award

Andrew Jacobs, an Associate Professor of Religious Studies, has been appointed as a UCR University Scholar for the 2005-2006 academic year. The University Scholars Award recognizes early career tenured faculty of outstanding merit, currently at UCR, with title and research support for 3 years.

The University Scholar program is an exciting opportunity to help our faculty achieve their full potential. UCR was pleased with the number of nominations, which led to keen competition amongst many deserving young scholars.

Jacobs received his Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University in 2001 and began teaching at UCR soon after as an assistant professor. His research areas include: Early Christian History; Biblical Interpretation; Jewish-Christian "relations" in Antiquity; and Gender and Cultural Studies. Jacobs has received several different awards and honors as well as published numerous amounts of articles and essays. His recent publications include Remains of the Jews: Holy Land and Christian Empire in Late Antiquity  and Christianity in Late Antiquity: A Reader.
