May 4, 2006
The Department of Art History recently announced the recipient of the 2006 Richard G. Carrott Memorial Student Support Award. Graduate Student Leigh Engel can look forward to traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and New York, New York to further her studies. The award will allow her to travel to the East Coast, which is essential to her research.
Engel’s thesis-related project is tentatively titled “Narrative Text in the Photographs of Duane Michals.” In Pennsylvania she will be able to access the artist’s archives and while in New York she will visit the artist’s gallery representation.
The Richard G. Carrott Memorial Student Support Award grants $1500 annually to support travel to primary resources, including museums, architectural sites, and archives. This grant may also support student fees and books. Each year the grant is awarded to a University of California, Riverside History of Art major who is currently working on a special research project and will be enrolled in the subsequent academic year.
