The Chinese Martial Arts Club Wins a Total of Eight Gold Medals

The Chinese Martial Arts Club at UCR cultivates an environment where its members can absorb the practice and the art of Chinese martial arts. Since its founding two years ago, the small club of five dedicated individuals has grown to thirty. On March 1st, nine members of the Chinese Martial Arts Club at UCR represented UCR in the 12th annual collegiate tournament at Stanford University. Four of the martial artists are CHASS students: Fred Lee, first year Psychology major; Vincent Yu, fourth year Philosophy major; Shawn Lu, second year Business major; and Sarah Lui, third year Business major.
Fred Lee was awarded two gold medals for Intermediate Straight Sword and Traditional Openhand. Vincent Yu was awarded a silver medal for Traditional Beginning Weapon and a bronze medal for Traditional Beginning Openhand. A total of eight golds, one silver and two bronze medals were won.
Students from Berkeley, UCLA, Maryland, Stanford, UCSD, Virginia Tech, CUS Fullerton, San Francisco University, UC Irvine, and the University of Oregon also competed.
