New Psychology Building in Use

By Ailsa Zheng, Student Intern of CHASS College Computing

The new Psychology building opened at UCR in late September, 2008. The 86,000 gross-square-foot structure is located between Olmstead Hall and the Parking Lot 6.

The outside of the building is quite eye-catching: its outer walls are made up of salmon-colored bricks, and large windows of green-tinted glass reflect sunlight. The interior of the building has a very modern and clean look, as if it were a part of a clinic or a four-star hotel. Students busily walk in and out of the building, though yellow tape still cuts off the lawn areas around it because the grass hasn’t grown in.

This new Psychology building was constructed to accommodate the ever-increasing number of students who enroll at UCR. This building, a $34 million project, was state-funded in 2004 under California’s Proposition 55. The result is a three-story building filled with laboratories and faculty offices for the Psychology department.
