SCREENWRITER WEIKO LIN HAS BEEN TAPPED AS FULBRIGHT SENIOR SPECIALIST
AT TAIPEI NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS

Writers Guild of America member and UC Riverside faculty Weiko Lin will be teaching graduate M.F.A. screenwriting courses in Taiwan

LOS ANGELES, October 6, 2008 —Award-winning playwright and upcoming Hollywood screenwriter Weiko Lin has been invited to teach at Taipei National University of the Arts in their MFA Screenwriting Program this December and next June. The filmmaking program is headed by veteran Taiwanese Producer Peggy Chiao who recently produced The Drummer starring Jackie Chan’s son, Jaycee Chan. The film premiered at 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Her past films Beijing Bicycle won the Silver Bear Award at Berlin International Film Festival. Her credits as producer also include Cannes Film Festival selection The Hole directed by Tsai Ming Liang as well as Blue Gate Crossing and Beatle Nut Beauty. She is currently in production on Like A Dream starring Hong Kong star Daniel Wu. Born in Taiwan, Weiko immigrated to Los Angeles when he was eight years old. A Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award recipient (past winners include Francis Ford Coppola – Godfather and Eric Roth – Forrest Gump) and Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Nicholl Screenwriting Fellow Finalist, Weiko holds a B.A. in English and a M.F.A. in Film and Television from UCLA. He started his career in the theater where he wrote and directed plays and musicals at UCLA Royce Hall, Veterans Wadsworth Theater, and the former Century City Playhouse. Most recently, his newest play The Best Man world premiered at East West Players’ David Henry Hwang Theater in May 2007.

On the film side, Weiko is writing an untitled feature film for Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated producer, Mark Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy, Saving Private Ryan), for which he will also serve as executive producer. In addition, he has a comedy in active development with Madhouse Entertainment whose clients include co-creator of Lost and writers of Lucky Number Slevin, new Knight Rider, and the upcoming Street Fighter. Presently, he is developing a comedy pitch with Mosaic Media (Get Smart, Semi- Pro). Weiko is a faculty member in screenwriting and playwriting at University of California at Riverside. A member of Writers Guild of America and co-chair of its Asian American Writers Committee, he is represented by Endeavor Agency.
