On January 7th, Dr. Nathaniel Jones III joined the staff of CHASS. Jones is the new CFAO (Chief Financial and Administrative Officer). Stephen Cullenberg, the Dean of CHASS, states that he "will oversee the Finance Unit, Contracts and Grants, and IT (information technology), as well as participate in short- and long-range planning."

Jones received his BA in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland. He then went on to get a Master of Business Administration from Loyola College. Jones continued his academic studies at the University of Maryland receiving his Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy, concentration of Health Policy.

Jones has over twenty years of experience in finance and administration. He began his professional career in 1987, as the Project Manager for the University of Maryland Medical System where he managed the planning, design and construction of health care facilities. In 1994, Jones joined Medstar Health where he served as the Corporate Director of Planning, Design and Construction Services. In this role, he managed the daily operations of the department---including the management of its $50M annual budget used to provide services for Medstar's Maryland, DC, and Virginia institutions.  Seeking broader administrative experience, Jones then went, in 2000, to Northern Arizona University, to become the Assistant Dean of Resources Management for the College of Education, providing leadership in the areas of financial affairs, enrollment management, grants and contracts, human resources and IT.

In 2003, Jones was given the opportunity to work with the University of Maryland, Public Policy department where he had received his doctorate a year prior. He went to the University of Maryland working for the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research as the Project Director for a research grant and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Public Policy department. After completing his research grant, Jones accepted an appointment at Dartmouth as the CFAO of the William Jewett Tucker Foundation and Assistant Professor of the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice.

Jones is a self-confessed workaholic, but enjoys tennis, biking and spending time with his 9 year old daughter Alexis. He is delighted to have joined the staff of CHASS and looks forward to a long and productive association with the college and UCR. Jones indicated that the southern California weather is a welcomed change in environment from cold and snow of northern New England. The college welcomes Nathaniel Jones III and looks forward to his leadership, borne out of his experience and expertise, in his new role as CFAO.
