Religious Studies Achievement Recognitions of 2009

On May 28th, the Department of Religious Studies presented nine awards to undergraduate and graduate students of UCR during the 2009 Annual Awards Luncheon.

Caroline Chui has received $500 from the Edwin S.Gaustad Award to pursue graduate studies in religion. Dakota Mattson won the Barbara and Donald Donner Essay Award (an award of $500) for her written work, "Love or Hate: How the Turin Shroud Affects the Most Basic and Complex Human Emotions." Harold Morales was presented an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award by Professor Jennifer Hughes. Sarah Shelvy and Kevin Eldridge each received recognition for demonstrating "meritorious achievement". Vincent Cervantes received an Encouragement Award for showing promise and potential. Jorden Sharick was also recognized for his study of religions.

Graduate students received even larger sums of money. Toby Johnson received a $3000 Ph.D. Research Grant acknowledged by Professor Pashaura Singh, and Natalie Winslow received a $1000 MA Advancement Award which was presented to her by Professor Justin McDaniel.
