As the 2008-2009 school year ends, the Ethnic Studies Department recognized the achievements of its students by holding an award ceremony on June 4th.

This year the Senior Awards ceremony was held in the Ethnic Studies Department Conference Room. Eight awards were passed out to eight undergraduate and graduate students to laud them for their hard work.

The first three awards recognized undergraduate students with the highest overall GPA under specified conditions: the Dosan Ahn Chang-Ho Award is presented a junior major, the Sumi Harada Award is presented to the graduating Ethnic Studies joint major, and the Maurice Jackson Award is presented to a graduating Ethnic Studies major. These awards went to Gabriela May Rios, Johnnyra Esparza, and Gabriel Louis Pimentel, respectively.

Other students, such as Elizabeth Laura Lopez (junior) and Janeth Guadalupe Pineda Navarro (graduating senior), were recognized for their service to the community. Juan Correa was recognized by international scholar Katherine Saubel for best promoting the preservation of cultural awareness. Erika Grisel Espinoza was presented the Barnett Grier award for the best promoting of ethic awareness.

The final award for Outstanding Teaching Assistant, presented by Dr. Richard Lowy, went to Sabrina Alimahomed. Congratulations to the recipients of these awards!
