College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
Director Compensation
With delegated authority, the Dean of the College appoints and reviews the directors of non-departmentalized degree programs and research centers in CHASS following consultation with the constituent faculty and other stakeholders. Typical director terms vary between three and five years. The terms and compensation for acting and interim appointments may differ.
Effective July 1, 2024, compensation for all non-departmentalized academic degree program directors in CHASS is set to a standardized schedule, based on curricular scope, enrollments, and operational complexity. Any director with an appointment that began prior to July 1, 2024, shall retain the original terms of appointment through the end of that appointment, when the new (re)appointee terms will be set to the standard schedule.
To match the compensation package for chairs, the director(s) of non-departmentalized academic degree programs have discretionary use of a fixed allotment for local student success initiatives (e.g., admissions, retention, high-impact practices, career readiness, graduation). Renewal of this annual allocation is subject to budgetary conditions and performance.
Compensation for research center directors varies considerably based on operational complexity and funding source. There is neither a standardized schedule nor a student success allotment.
