CHASS announces new faculty promotions

UCR Chancellor and Provost approve new ranks for twenty-two Academic Senate Faculty

In accordance with a review by UCR’s Academic Personnel Office and the approval of the Office of the Provost, the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) announces the promotion of 22 faculty members, taking effect July 1, 2022.

Promotions include four faculty members who have been promoted to Distinguished Professor, three promoted to the rank of Professor VI, eight promoted to Professor, six promoted to Associate Professor, and one promoted to Associate Professor of Teaching.

We make special note of Professors Laila Lalami (Creative Writing), Lisa Raphals (Comparative Literature and Languages), Michele Salzman (History), and Jan Stets (Sociology) who have been promoted to the rank of Distinguished Professor. According to the Academic Personnel Office, ”advancement to this level is reserved for scholars and teachers of the highest distinction whose work has been internationally recognized and acclaimed and whose teaching performance is excellent.”

”These promotions signify the commitments by our CHASS Academic Senate faculty to the rigorous pursuit of excellence in teaching, research, and public service,” said Daryle Williams, Professor of History and CHASS Dean. “Please join me in congratulating these professors on their well-deserved promotions and their continued dedication to their fields, to our students, and to UC Riverside. CHASS is proud of their accomplishments and will continue to support them as they enter this new stage in their careers.”
